Dymatize Nutrition Sold to TA Associates
Neither side wrote a major press release, and most wouldn’t have noticed. But TA Associates, a private equity firm, has now acquired a majority share of the Sports Nutrition brand Dymatize Nutrition. As part of the deal, the original owners of Dymatize Nutrition will continue to make the majority of the decisions about how Dymatize Nutrition is run while retaining a significant portion of their equity. But other terms remain undisclosed, with TA Associates being the first major investor since Dymatize’s beginnings more than 15 years ago.
Where did Dymatize come from?
Dymatize was founded in Texas in 1994, and since then, Dymatize has grown to offer more than 200 separate products in numerous categories using a vertically-integrated business model. In other words, Dymatize manufacturers the majority of its own products in company owned facilities. This allows Dymatize to save more money, meaning that ideally you would save more money as well. But it does not limit distribution, and as far as officials are currently stating, this change in marketing shares will not affect the way that Dymatize operates or how it is distributed.
Where Dymatize is sold
Dymatize is sold through multiple outlets and retailers, both domestic and international, and millions of Dymatize bottles are shipped via retailers like The Vitamin Shoppe, GNC, and Bodybuilding.com every year. Over the past 20+ years, Dymatize has developed an ever growing presence in these and other stores, constantly expanding its reach to make Dymatize products readily available to more consumers.
William D Christ, a Senior Vice President at TA Associates and a future director of Dymatize states “We are excited by the opportunity to partner with current management and build upon Dymatize’s past success.”
Further, another CEO, Ted Casey, states “The company’s desire to produce high quality reasonably priced sports supplements products, its vertically-integrated model, and its expansive international presence, make Dymatize a unique company in the sports supplements industry….Adherence to the highest quality standards is a hallmark of Dymatize.”
Old and new board members alike hold high hopes for Dymatize and its future when integrated with the new blood of TA associates, which will hopefully lead to greater expansion and development for Dymatize Nutrition as a supplementing company.
