Meal replacement in a powder packet seems simple enough; however, can Optislim meal replacement soups really offer a complete healthy and nutritious diet program as they claim? Australian based company; Optislim offers a VLCD (Very Low Calorie Diet) program that they say anyone at any stage of weight loss can succeed with. Let’s find out if what they say holds up?
The Claims
Optislim makes a variety of very good sounding promises with their VLCD products. They say the soups are:
• Nutritionally Complete
• Delicious and Flavorful
• Found in 3 Varieties (Creamy Chicken, Pumpkin and Tomato)
• May be used with VLCD Shakes and Bars
These soups and other VLCD options come with the promise of weight loss through their three step program. You can choose any of these programs depending on which level you feel would benefit you the most.
Accelerated Weight Loss: This is the most intense step of the program. During this step you will replace all three meals with a VLCD product, in turn receiving between 200 and 250 calories per meal, allowing for 800 calories at the most each day.
Rapid Weight Loss: Step two becomes a little less intense, substituting only two meals per day with a VLCD product. In addition, during step two, you are supposed to eat a third healthy well-balanced meal and participate in a daily exercise program. your total caloric intake while in step two, should only be about 1,000 calories per day.
Balanced Weight Loss: Only one meal per day will be replaced in this third and final stage of the program. You should still eat two healthy, well-balanced meals and participate in an exercise program. However, on this last stage you can up your calorie consumption to between 1300-1500 calories each day.
The Criticisms
First, let’s start at the very beginning; after all, it is the best place to start. This product is manufactured in Australia and available only in Australia and the UK. This already takes it off the market for many readers.
Second, the product has no ingredient list, ANYWHERE! How is a person supposed to know if they can truly offer total daily nutrition if there is no proof?
Third, there is no fiber included in the Optislim soups. You must make an additional purchase in order to complete your “full nutritional requirements” for the day.
Consume it or Condemn it?
We do not recommend trying this product! The negatives far outweigh the positives that may come from this “starvation diet.” You would be much better off finding something else to help with your weight loss goals.
