Infomercials are always tacky, infomercials are meant to be tacky. But the Shake Weight is not your average infomercial product, it’s worse! The commercials are pretty horrible, mimicking bright colors and unbelievably tacky facial expressions I haven’t seen since some time in the 80’s! I get a good workout every time…..by rolling on the ground laughing hysterically!

Obviously, this wasn’t what Shake Weight makers were going for when creating the 2.5 dumbbell with springs on both sides. Shake Weight makers would prefer if you believed that the Shake Weight is the ultimate way to work the entire upper body in just 6 minutes!

What’s the best way to tell? Try it for yourself.

My Experience with the Shake Weight

I did feel the “burn” within a few second of using Shake Weight. I had to grip it pretty tightly so that it wouldn’t fall out of my hands. I felt a burning in my neck, and I almost threw it out the open door. It looked a lot easier on TV and a lot less awkward.

I did use the videos, which helped once I got used to it. But according to a Virginia trainer, Kim Sanborn, “It’s virtually useless.” Technically, it definitely felt different, even a little slippery at first. But after about a month of using it, I personally saw no difference. Obviously weight lifting is not meant to burn fat. It doesn’t get your heart rate up like cardio. And in order to reveal any muscle you do build, you have to burn fat with cardio. But as far as I can tell, the Shake Weight did not even build my muscle.

The Cost of Shake Weight

Shaking for about 6 minutes a day isn’t going to cut it. I doubt that 60 minutes a day would do much of anything as compared to a normal dumbbell that weighed 5 pounds or for that matter 20 pounds, which is pretty standard. If you are trying to build bulkier muscle, obviously you want to lift more. But if you just want to tone your arm as the women’s commercial suggests, then you should stick to 10 or 15 pound weights and complete more reps whenever you can.

Conclusion

Shake Weight seems like just the thing. It’s the advertiser’s job to make Shake Weight seem essential. But truth be told, the Shake Weight is not nearly as special as you might hope, and when you break it down, $19.99 is a lot to pay for 1 dumbbell, no matter how special it is supposed to be.
